Virginia Ultimate Travel Guide

In my home state of Virginia, there is so much to see! I recommend choosing a destination from my list and planning your trip to stay in one general area. With so much to do and so much area to cover, Virginia is a fantastic place to visit over and over again (or you could just move here with me!) Virginia is a beautiful state filled with lots to do and incredible people. That’s why they say ‘Virginia is for lovers!’ From the beaches of Virginia to bustling cities like Arlington, Virginia has everything one could imagine within its state lines. While residing in this lovely state, we have had the opportunity to explore some of the best parts of Virginia, but I feel like we have only scratched the surface of what VA has to offer us.

BUCKET LIST EXPERIENCES

    Spend an evening (or the rest of your life) in Old Town Alexandria

    Lined with adorable shops and scrumptious restaurants, this sweet town even housed George Washington for a night or two. Here you can find abundant history and culture just steps outside of Washington DC.

    Drink wine in Loudoun County

    Loudoun County is quickly growing in popularity for visitors and those moving to the area. With tons of wineries and breweries to choose from, a great day trip from DC is taking a tour out west to visit some of the local vineyards.

    Visit George Washington’s Home

    If you haven’t done this since middle school (or ever), it might be time to take a trip to visit Mount Vernon. Home to the US’ first el presidente in the late 1700s, this historical landmark is very well-maintained. Their giftshop is also A1! #TakeAllMyMoney

    Take a vacation to Smith Mountain Lake

    Nestled between Roanoke, Lynchburg, and the border of North Carolina lies Virginia’s absolute best lake. Smith Mountain Lake is a man-made reservoir best known for its excellent fishing and abundant water sports. Take a break from life and head on down to one of the best lakes on the east coast.

    Take a Hike in Shenandoah NP

    Virginia is home to only one of the United States National Parks, but Shenandoah sure is a good one to have. There is never a bad time to visit this great national park, but my favorite time is during the fall when the leaves are changing. Check out the ‘Old Rag’ hike on AllTrails (pictured).

    Spend a long weekend in Virginia Beach

    Virginia Beach is best known for being a popular destination for East Coasters, but should be on everyone visiting Virginia’s radar as a great spot to visit in the summer. I highly recommend staying in the Sand Bridge area of Virginia Beach for a fantastic vacation.
